Context & Problem
Users struggled with complex and time-consuming remote access to their backup infrastructure. Managing multiple clusters was fragmented, with no single place to monitor storage utilization and hardware health across the entire fleet. This made it harder to quickly identify and respond to outages, capacity issues, and security threats. Service providers also faced challenges maintaining clear visibility across multiple tenants.
Shaping the Core Product Direction
Together with the Product Owner, I spent hours exploring different directions and defining the core concept for Fleet Manager. We built and iterated on multiple user flows to visualize how users would navigate the product, understand their priorities, and identify the most important actions. This process helped us separate essential functionality from secondary features, uncover potential friction points, and gradually shape a clear product direction that could serve as a foundation for the overall experience.
Designing for Clarity, Not Complexity
We decided to remove as much complexity as possible and make simplicity one of the core principles of the Fleet Manager experience. Instead of overwhelming users with unnecessary details, the interface focuses on the information that matters most at a glance. Key data is presented through summarized statistics and clear system states, allowing users to quickly understand the overall health of their fleet and focus on areas that require attention. This approach became one of the key characteristics of the product’s UI/UX.
